NCAA teams to wear contact tracing devices during March Madness
When arriving in Indianapolis, all Tier 1 travel parties of 34 people will receive a “SafeTag” that is given a unique ID number. It can be worn like a watch on the wrist, on a lanyard or in the pocket of a jersey or shorts.
The devices must be worn during all practices and games.
According to the NCAA, the data collected will be used to assist with contact tracing and to determine the need to quarantine participants. It can identify who was within six feet of someone infected with COVID-19 and for how long.
